LA Opera To Present World Premiere Of ‘Eurydice’

The LA Opera is set to showcase the world premiere of  composer, conductor, writer, pianist, and 2018 MacArthur Fellow Matthew Aucoin’s “Eurydice.” The company will present six performances with star soprano Danielle de Niese and Joshua Hopkins in leading roles. The cast will also feature Rod Gilfry, John Holiday, Barry Banks, Stacey Tappan, Raehann Bryce-Davis, and Matthew Grills.The production will be directed by Mary Zimmerman with a libretto by Sarah Ruhl. Ruhl wrote the libretto at 25, the same age as Aucoin when he first began adapting it for the opera house. The production was commissioned by LA Opera in collaboration with New York’s Metropolitan Opera, which will showcase the East Coast premiere during the 2021-22 season. “Eurydice” opens on Feb. 1 and runs through Feb. 23, 2020.
