English National Opera Wins Olivier Award

The English National Opera was the big winner in the opera category at the Olivier Awards on April 12.

The company took home the prize for Best New Opera Production for its production of “Dead Man Walking.” The production which was performed in 2025 starred Christine Rice as Sister Helen Prejean.

The company beat out The Royal Opera which was nominated for such productions as “The Makropulos Case,” “Tosca” and “Die Walküre.”

The evening also saw Danielle de Niese awarded the prize of Outstanding Contribution to Opera for her distinctive career, blending operatic credibility with musical theatre style.
